Chiang Mai, Thailand

After 6 days in Phuket and Ko Phi Phi we headed to Chiang Mai, oh how I love thee. If I could stay somewhere a few months out of the year to shoot weddings at, it would be Chiang Mai. In fact, we're hoping to make this happen in the next few years. This was the last of our stops on our 20 day honeymoon. Initially we were hoping to be more adveturous when we got here, we had plans of doing trip tours through Mae Sariang. After reading some not-so-positive reviews on the interwebs about the hill tribes being more tourist traps than authentic experiences of Thailand culture and being simply exhausted from hoping around southwest Asia we neglected the idea. Instead we took the time to eat, read, and chill. The only activity we were determined to do while we were there was visit Patara elephant farm, a location recommended by our own wedding photographers as well as our clients. We also highly recommend this place if you're interested in supporting a farm that treats animals properly and works at actually rehabilitating animals instead of using them to attract tourists. I've heard so many horrible things about the tiger temples lately that I would never want to support that kind of company. We also rented a motorbike in Chiang Mai, for 2 tuk-tuk rides in town you can rent a motorbike for the entire day. It's much easier to drive here than in Bangkok or Phuket, although you are supposed to have an international driver's license (oops). It was the best way to get around the area and more affordable. We also experienced some of the night life of Chiang Mai near the major university, one of the crazier nights of our lives with people we will probably never see again from Canada, the UK, & Denver (random). These are mostly photos from our trip to Patara and one photo of Doi Suthep that we took a motorbike up to.-Carolineelephant in Thailandphotos of Patara elephant farmpatara elephant farm in chiang maielephants in chiang maifriendly Thailand elephantbaby elephant in Thailandbaby elephant in Chiang Maitemple in Chiang Mai
